Big changes in how organisations capture, store and process personal data come into force on the 25th May 2018. The rights of individuals to control their personal data are strengthened. Complicated terms and legal jargon to obtain consent to process data are unacceptable. The personal data of EU residents is protected, no matter where the processing organisation is based. Breach notifications must be made within 72 hours of becoming aware of a breach. Stiff penalties for non-compliance exist - up to 4% of annual global turnover or a maximum of €20 Million.
